Tercera sesión del Comité Intergubernamental de Negociación para preparar un documento jurídicamente vinculante a nivel mundial sobre el mercurio (CIN 3)

La tercera sesión del Comité Intergubernamental de Negociación para elaborar un instrumento jurídicamente vinculante a nivel mundial sobre el mercurio (CIN3) se celebró en Nairobi (Kenia) del 31 de octubre al 4 noviembre de 2011.

En la tercera sesión, los delegados completaron una revisión acabada del nuevo documento sobre los proyectos de elementos de un enfoque exhaustivo e idóneo para un instrumento jurídicamente vinculante a nivel mundial sobre el mercurio, elaborado por la Secretaría sobre la base de las opiniones expresadas por las partes en CIN2 y presentadas por escrito después de esa sesión.

Seis grupos de contacto se reunieron durante la semana y el texto nuevo se elaboró sobre los artículos relacionados con la minería artesanal y a pequeña escala del oro; almacenamiento, desechos y sitios contaminados; sensibilización, investigación y vigilancia, y la comunicación de la información. El grupo legal establecido en CIN2 examinó los artículos relacionados con los acuerdos institucionales, solución de controversias y disposiciones finales.

El Comité concluyó solicitando el trabajo entre sesiones que incluía la preparación por parte de la Secretaría de un texto revisado sobre la base de los informes de los grupos de contacto y el trabajo del grupo legal.
