UNITAR and UN Environment “MercuryLearn platform”

As part of the ongoing efforts for building national capacity, UN Environment and UNITAR collaborate on an online training platform: MercuryLearn (currently in English and Spanish). The main component of the platform is the UNEP Toolkit for Identification and Quantification of Mercury Releases, which provides interactive modules to assist in the development of mercury inventories. The platform also  provides links to awareness-raising materials and other tools. These activities are funded by the European Commission and the Government of Switzerland.

InforMEA introductory course on the Minamata Convention

InforMEA, a project established under the Multilateral Environmental Agreements Information and Knowledge Management Initiative, now features an online introductory course on the Minamata Convention on Mercury. The course provides information on the environmental challenges posed by mercury pollution, highlights the urgency of effective global action and gives an overview of the Convention’s key operational articles. The final section of the course focuses on institutional arrangements and the overall implementation of the Convention.

At the end of the course, participants can test their knowledge and obtain a course certificate. The course, supported by funding from the European Union, is available for free on the InforMEA e-learning platform. It is currently available in English with further language versions being developed.
