ICMGP 2022 calls for mini workshop proposals

Wednesday, March 31, 2021

The 15th International Conference on Mercury as a Global Pollutant (ICMGP), to be held in Cape Town July 2022, is now accepting mini workshop proposals, with an opportunity to convene virtual sessions as part of Minamata Online Season 2.

The call for mini workshop proposals is to be submitted to the ICMGP Workshop Committee by 30 June 2021. The workshops intend to provide attendees with:

  • a greater understanding about many areas of mercury research;
  • opportunities to help identify and engage with potential research collaborators or co-authors on areas of mutual interest in mercury research; and
  • the best learning experience from globally recognized researchers on a variety of mercury topics presented as interactive sessions.

The Secretariat of the Minamata Convention is also considering submitting a mini workshop proposal, for topics such as “socio-economic and behavioural science aspects related to mercury”, potentially in partnership with relevant stakeholders.

The ICMGP started in 1990 as an international forum on mercury science. Its 15th meeting will be held from 24 to 29 July 2022 in Cape Town, South Africa, for the first time in the African continent. The Secretariat of the Minamata Convention has been participating in this forum in the past and strengthening the ties. The scientific stream of the Minamata Online Season 1 was organized as a joint effort with ICMGP, and its Season 2 is currently being planned, in coordination with ICMGP’s call for mini workshop proposals.
