Notification on amendment proposals to Annexes A and B ahead of COP4

On 30 April 2021, the Executive Secretary Monika Stankiewicz notified the Parties and Signatories to the Minamata Convention on Mercury of three proposed texts of amendments to Annexes A and B. These proposals are to be put forward for consideration by the Conference of the Parties at its fourth meeting (COP4).

• Proposal by Canada and Switzerland to amend Annex A: Part I to the Minamata Convention on Mercury to be considered by the Conference of the Parties at its fourth meeting.
• Proposal by the Africa region to amend Annex A: Part I, and Annex A: Part II to the Minamata Convention on Mercury to be considered by the Conference of the Parties at its fourth meeting.
• Proposal by the European Union to amend Annex A: Part I, Annex A: Part II, and Annex B: Part I to the Minamata Convention on Mercury to be considered by the Conference of the Parties at its fourth meeting.

The letters were sent in accordance with paragraph 2 of Article 26, which provides that the text of any proposed amendment to the Convention is to be communicated to the Parties by the Secretariat at least six months before the meeting at which it is proposed for adoption. The proposals are to be considered at the in-person segment of COP4 in the first quarter of 2022.

Parties are invited to share comments or questions regarding the amendment proposals to facilitate discussion at COP4.
